Intelligence is the ability to acquire and apply intellect and skills. It can also mean the collection of information of military or political value.
Artificial means made or produced by human beings versus coming about naturally. When it comes to behavior, artificial can mean insincere or affected.
America seems to have been hit full force by the artificial intelligence craze. It would seem that November 2022 was the first time that the majority of Americans seemed to have heard of artificial intelligence (unless you were a fan of the movie, “The Matrix.”)
At first glance, the phrase “artificial intelligence” seemed created to mark a difference between what I call natural or human intelligence and the fabricated or synthesized intelligence that comes from a machine or a computer.
Some of us humans try to speak at least beyond the paragraph and a half that most people exchange with each other. “Good morning. How are you? Who are you voting for? Really? Have a good day.” If we can get beyond those opening phrases, most of us tend to look at ourselves as either meaningful, deep, or philosophical.
As I get older, I view the deep or philosophical as those who carry themselves with a quiet demeanor and ask more questions versus sharing responses. I have learned to appreciate that asking questions is an indication of thought and perspective while those who make declarative statements are limited to one paragraph at best.
With the relatively recent banter around artificial intelligence, I am a little torn between artificial and natural. Could artificial and natural be the same? Does artificial have to imply a computer or some other mechanical aid? Does natural imply sitting with your thoughts with no other influence on those thoughts other than quiet perspective brought about without the presence of a cellphone?
And what about the term intelligence itself? Does being intelligent require a universal view about a human being or should intelligence be relegated to the particular environment of said human?
For example, if the human can get up in the morning, go out and hunt, come back and cook his meal, and have a couple rounds of sex, are they not as intelligent as the city dweller who gets a cup of Joe, goes into an office, gets home by bus, and has a quickie with his wife? Are not the hunter in the wild and the city dweller intelligent?
I may have touched on artificial intelligence in an earlier post. The more I touch on “artificial intelligence”, the more annoyed I become with the term “artificial.” I have to work out why I am annoyed with the word some more, but it would seem to me that there is no such description as artificial. Sure, today we use the word artificial to describe something that is either not from the Earth or is mechanical, but if the concept comes out of the minds of humans, why term it as artificial?
Similar thought to the word, “intelligence.” What is so intelligent about what we humans do? We seem to move more on instinct than we do intelligence, although I can see where humans may want to distinguish themselves from other forms of animal life.
I have to give the notion of artificial intelligence some more thought. As a heads up, my blog will focus more on artificial intelligence as the months progress. I am interested to see where Americans specifically and humans on Earth in general go with artificial intelligence.
As a side note, I will spend less time on artificial currencies, i.e., the dollar, the pound, etc., and more time on gold and silver as the latter currencies are a bit closer to Mother Earth.
