Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta president and chief executive officer Raphael Bostic and Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago president and chief executive officer Austan Goolsbee will each deliver remarks today on monetary policy and issues pertinent to the districts within which their banks operate. President Goolsbee is a member of this year’s Federal Open Market Committee. While President Bostic is not a member of this year’s Federal Open Market Committee, he, along with seven other federal reserve bank heads, will provide the FOMC with his insights about how monetary policy is impacting the 6th federal reserve district.
Narrative wise, I do not know what to expect Mr. Bostic or Mr. Goolsbee to say. Both will probably tow the line on the Federal Reserve Board’s preference to look for data that supports further cuts in the discount window rate, interest on reserve balances, and overnight reverse repurchase facilities. These three rates set the boundaries and incentives within which banks lend each other the excess reserves they maintain in their bank vaults or in master accounts with their respective federal reserve banks.
Mr. Goolsbee speaks at 1:00 pm ET. Mr. Bostic speaks at 1:30 pm ET.
