Michelle Bowman, the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System’s vice-chair for supervision, will speak at 10:00 AM EDT at the International Journal of Central Banking conference in Prague. As vice-chair of supervision, Vice-Chair Bowman is responsible for the Board’s understanding of banks’ operations, banks’ major risks, how well banks manage these risks and whether banks have sufficient financial and managerial resources to manage these risks.
Banks take risks when lending and the Board is responsible for monitoring how well banks are monitoring and managing these risks and their financial and management resources.

Vice-chair Bowman will be delivering her remarks in the wake of heightened global risks just days after the United States bombed Iran’s nuclear facilities. According to Reuters, markets are worried about positive inflationary impact of potential escalation of the conflict between Iran and Israel with the U.S. apparently immersing itself into the fray. For example, if Iran were able to shut down the Strait of Hormuz, there would be a severe impact on the supply of oil flowing out of the Middle East with increases in oil prices following a closure. Risks, according to analysts cited in Reuters, may skew to the upside demand for safe-haven currencies such as the US dollar.
I do not know if Vice-Chairman Bowman will speak to these risks and the impact on the US dollar and by extension on other currencies. I am waiting to listen to her insights on the current global threats before making a decision on the NADEX weekly binary options contract in EUR/USD which expires at 3pm this Friday.
