Today’s definition: Retail foreign exchange dealer

Investopedia offers the following definition for a retail foreign exchange dealer:

“A retail foreign exchange dealer (RFED) acts as a counterparty to an off-exchange, over-the-counter (OTC) foreign currency transaction where buying and selling of financial instruments do not involve any of the exchanges.”

Under the rules of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, a retail foreign exchange dealer is defined as:

“any person that is, or that offers to be, the counterparty to a retail foreign exchange transaction.”
